Human Resources

At Wilkes University, faculty and staff foster a community dedicated to student success and professional fulfillment.

Human Resources supports our most important asset — our people. We strive to make Wilkes a great place to work by recruiting, retaining and developing outstanding employees.

Why Work at Wilkes?

Wilkes University offers the opportunities of a large university in the mentoring culture of a small college. It’s a place where you can achieve your professional and personal best. We believe in employee empowerment, development, accountability and work/life balance.

Diversity is one of our core values at Wilkes and we encourage applications from diverse backgrounds. Through a commitment to embracing our differences, we create a more vibrant, inclusive learning community.

Located on the Susquehanna River in the heart of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, our 35-acre campus is a community within a community. You’ll find a variety of ways to build your skills and enjoy resources at Wilkes and in the surrounding area.

Catch up with colleagues in the dining hall or stroll downtown to grab lunch. Enjoy access to a variety of guest speakers. Browse the Sordoni Art Gallery, cheer on our Division III Colonels and get tickets to student productions at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts.

When you want to venture off campus, you can take advantage of northeastern Pennsylvania’s opportunities for outdoor adventure. Hiking, camping, and skiing are all nearby. If you want to go further, cultural centers like New York City and Philadelphia are about two hours away.

Mentor meet-up

Mentoring is at the heart of the Wilkes mission and it’s not limited to faculty/student interaction. Wilkes pairs each new employee with a hand-picked mentor to introduce you to the campus, people and culture. These work friendships often continue well after the first few months of the job.

Employee wellness

Wilkes believes in a holistic approach to employee well-being. Our benefits package features health, vision and dental insurance, as well as a flexible savings account and health spending account. The Wellness Committee hosts a variety of initiatives and activities dedicated to helping improve mind-body wellness.

Educational benefits

Wilkes believes in lifelong learning. We offer a generous tuition remission benefit to full-time employees, their spouses, same-gender domestic partners and dependent children. The simple process requires completion of an online tuition remission application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, followed by HR approval.

At Wilkes, faculty are respected, supported in our role, and we experience a strong sense of belonging. The “Wilkes Family” is more than a slogan. It describes a special connection that is a hallmark of our community.Dr. Blake Lamberti Mackesy, Chair of the Faculty Affairs Council

Colonels’ Community Engagement

Community Volunteers

The Wilkes University Financial Services team works closely with students and their families to help them understand the financial aid process, and to make it more personal, manageable and affordable. To get reacquainted and help local families impacted by COVID, the team volunteered at the Commission of Economic Opportunity’s Weinberg Food Bank.

Taste of Wilkes

Employees also enjoy cooking up great food for a great cause. For more than 20 years, Wilkes University has hosted Taste of Wilkes. Staff and faculty donate time and talent, showing off their best recipes and treating others to delectable delights for a small fee. All proceeds go to the United Way of Wyoming Valley.

These are just two examples of the many ways the University impacts our community. Wilkes serves as a positive force for economic, social and cultural development in our region with an economic impact of more than $250 million and more than 109,000 hours of annual hands-on community service by our faculty, staff and students.
